Feb 7th - Whistle Binkies (on the Lake) Ice Tourney
I've been contacted by Whistle Binkies (South) on the Lake to help host a fund raiser event they are putting together. This fundraiser is in conjunction with the Polar Bear Plunge folks with half proceeds going to Special Olympics.
When: Saturday, Feb 7th from 12:00(noon)-4:00pm [Registration from 11:00-12:00]
Where: Whistle Binkies South (on the Lake).
Cost: $10 per person for entry fee (with an optional $1.00 big fish prize)
Rules:
You can weigh 4 fish total which can be any mix of either perch, crappie, or bluegill. It might be 4 perch. It might be 2 crappies, 1 bluegill and 1 perch. It can me any mix of crappie, bluegill, and/or perch to reach your 4 fish limit. Immediately release any smaller fish to ensure it best chance of survival. Obviously, do everything you can to keep all your fish alive for a healthy release after weigh-ins. All healthy fish will be released.
Prizes (payouts):
Half the proceeds from the entry fee will be returned to the winners (the other half is donated to the Special Olympics). 1st, 2nd and 3rd places will receive cash payouts. There will also be some prizes given away randomly after weigh-ins.
Optional Big Fish: $1 to enter. This will be a 100% payback prize to the person that weighs in the largest fish of any species. If you catch a large fish and want to weigh it before the contest is over that's fine, just find me and we'll get it weighed and returned safely to the water.
I'll be running the registration and weigh-ins. Both will be very similar to the UPLR workings (in fact, much of the contest is very similar). I will be in the bar from 11:00 - 11:30, then on the ice for the remainder of the day. You can register in the bar on on the ice.
The are a few other events going on that day at WBs on the Lake including Tug-of-War, and Frozen Turkey Bowling, a Silent Auction (and more). Contact WBs south for more information on these events.
Rumor has it that there will be a 4-wheeled vehicle on the ice selling refreshments (beer, pop, and water).
WBs will have some 5 gallon pails (pickle buckets) to give to anybody who forgot to bring one (to keep fish alive). Please ask if you'd like one.
RecycledFish has donated enough hand warmers so that each person that registers will receive one. The are also working with Fleet Farm and a few other places to try to round up some additional sponsored products to give-away.
I plan to fish with my wife, which in itself will be a special treat. Hope to see some familiar faces there. I'll probably stick around after the event for a hot bowl WBs chili and a cold refreshment.

Sounds like fun! Not everyday that the general public gets to fish this lake! There are some dandies in there!

Sounds like I'm going to KY wrestling instead.
But in all honesty I should send some money to donate to the good cause.

Really??? After last years UPLR event there I wasn't sure if I would go back. I might have to try and get the ol-lady out for her first ever ice fishing experience. Maybe since there seems to be others bringing ladies that she'll go, and I can always throw in that "but honey, its for a good cause!"

Perch, Craps, Gills, Largemouth, and carp. That's all I personally know of. Casey, I think the daytime fishing out there should be better than the evening fishing.

Like I said, there's nice fish in there. Those perch were a nice surprise that night.
