Pickin Crawlers

Got about a dozen tonight. Pretty weak. Was hoping for more rain to really bring them up, but nada.

What kind of light do you use when picking? Right now my grass is thick (multched) and it's really a bugger to find them in the grass (even thou I just mowed a few days ago (but I mow on a higher setting in the heat of summer)).

The fall sturgeon bite can be punishing on the crawler supply, so I'm stocking up (well trying to anyways).

RE: Pickin Crawlers

I use a red headlight (actually a LED white light with red plastic snap on lens. The crawlers are not spooked by the red light and it makes for much easier picking. We had about 1-1/2 inch here North of town and there was not 1 crawler on the driveway after the rain. It was/is apparently so dry near the surface the little buggers are deep. It'll get better though...

RE: Pickin Crawlers

I use a green headlamp. I have used white or LED in the past. Just don't shine directly on them. Headlamps are the way to go. No more holding the flashlight in the mouth for doubles.

Randal are you sure about that, from what i have been told on a crane of that size that specializes in heavy lifting like that they supply their own operators that are trained on that crane and then wherever they are working i.e. state wise they supply the oilers..
