RE: Species Contest General Discussion

Alrighty folks, we're back up and rocking. I finally got the leader board updated with the current entries on this new RA forum. Sorry, but you'll have to repost all your species contest entries in this new forum. At this point, both the previous forums are accessible so you can copy and paste from them if you wish.

Rugby... 17.... WoW. Nice work!

Hope to see many new entrants soon... Myself included.

Id say just post it under this thread and between the crew there will be a consensus. I have one that i plan on posting later i couldnt tell if it was just a monster golden or a silver.

DaveO, good question. Feel free to post your pictures and questions in this thread. As a group we'll get you squared away on each species of redhorse, and then you can start your personal species thread with accurate information.

It does take a little while to get comfortable IDing redhorse, but I'll do my best to point out the key identifying features of each.

I'd have to say Silver there bud, if it was a golden, it would have been a WORLD RECORD!! Goldens rarely exceed 17-18 inches.

Dufek. Definatlely Silver Redhorse. Silvers have a convex (curving outward) dorsal fin and a large fleshy mouth. Basically you can stick your thumb in a silvers mouth, but not a golden.

Is this their spawning colors or what? You can see the anal fins really dark what you cant see in the pic is that the body was a dark brown with some real shine to it...
