Florida Bass

Well just got back from the tropics of Florida. Wow it was nice, but it was hard to come back to this -5 stuff. Anyways went on a half day charter on Naples Bay with Capt. Pete Root (naples-fishingcharters.com) and caught a bunch of sea trout and a fat sheepshead right at the end. I also caught a few bass out of a pond right next to my hotel. #1 fell for a jig, cranked at moderate speed off the bottom. #2 hit a Rapala Skitter Pop topwater. I lost a few others almost withing reach of the bank. I caught a third on a jig that had really neat coloring, totally different from what you see up here. I will keep trying to attach that one as my computer won't let me at the moment. All were 13 1/2", small fry down there! You forget how much you like bass fishing during this long winter... It felt weird to be catching them in January.

Florida Bass

Florida Bass is considered some of the best fishing in the United States. The Sunshine State is a virtual mecca for bass fishing, as well as other sport fishing, and is one of the premier fishing destinations in the world. Excellent bass fishing can be found in the many lakes, ponds, canals and creeks throughout Florida, with Lake Okeechobee being, perhaps, the most famous lake for Largemouth Bass in the country. Sugden Regional Park has some Bass, but they aren't very big and the lake is pressured by tons of recreational people.Otherwise the closest good Bass fishing would either be off the Tamiami Trail. The Tamiami can be quite fun to fish because it has a number of non-native fish along with the Bass fishing.
